Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics
Announces Wayne Morse Law Student Fellowships
for 2008-09

ATTENTION INCOMING LAW STUDENTS

The Wayne Morse Center is an interdisciplinary center housed at the University of Oregon School of Law that carries on the legacy of Wayne Morse, former dean of the law school and U.S. Senator. Each year the Wayne Morse Center awards Wayne Morse Center Fellowships to three members of each law school class.

The purpose of the Wayne Morse Fellowship is to promote the interests of Senator Morse among students by:

  • Providing support to students with demonstrated
    interest in public service and policy;
  • Increasing the visibility of Senator Morse and the
    Wayne Morse Center; and
  • Involving students in the activities of the
    Wayne Morse Center.

The Wayne Morse Center selects key topics in law and politics for inquiry and public discussion. The Center invites distinguished scholars to the University and supplements their visits with commissioned activities on campus and in the community. The theme of inquiry for academic year 2008-09 is “Democracy and Citizenship in the 21st Century.”

The total support to each Wayne Morse Fellow is $4,250. Activities include providing assistance to visiting scholars, event planning, research assistance, and being an ambassador of the Wayne Morse Center to students and the community. Students are selected by a faculty committee on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated interest in the tradition of Senator Morse, including public service, politics, labor and representative government. Appointments are for one year. Fellows may apply for subsequent years, but reappointment is not automatic, and the process is open each year.

How to apply:

If you would like to be considered for the Wayne Morse Law Student Fellowship for first-year students for 2008-09, email a brief paragraph expressing your interest to admissions@law.uoregon.edu or mail it to the Office of Admissions, University of Oregon School of Law, 1221 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403-1221. Please make sure that your name, as stated on your application, is included. If you are chosen as a Wayne Morse Law Student Fellow, you will be notified by the Wayne Morse Center.
